Mon 4-May-09 (Khamsin)

The winds picked up overnight and this morning were blowing heat and dust everywhere. The Khamsin is in town. The kids were frustrated because although it was in the 30s, they were stuck inside at school. The local cats that hang out at our place were either asleep or yawning each time I saw them. The air was a thick dusty haze and the drive back from the hospital this evening was quite eerie with the sun white like the moon and the sky a browny colour (it felt like life on Mars). This is not our first experience, but may be our last before we depart Israel for Australia...whenever that will be.

Friends of ours went to check out the desert today and got up close and personal with sandstorms. Apparently visibility was almost non-existent at times.

It's now 11pm and it has cooled substantially. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
