We met this afternoon with the Neurosurgeon. He is very happy with Maria’s general condition and overall healing process.
He told us that the pathology had not been completed. However, there was sufficient analysis to understand it is a Glioma (cancerous tumour). We will find out exactly what it is by the end of the week (i.e. either Astrocytoma or Oligodendroglioma), which may help with treatment options down the track. Regardless, it will require six weeks of radiotherapy as a starting point. To allow the brain to fully recover from the surgery, the treatment won’t start until a month after the operation (i.e. two more weeks from now).
For now, we have told Ben and Gabi that mummy needs to have radiotherapy to attack the remaining portion of the tumour that could not be removed during the operation. We opened it up for questions, but no hard ones have been asked…yet.
Our doctor and friend, Harvey Belik, was with us (Maria/Effie/me) and has been a huge blessing and support throughout this ordeal.
To each of you, we wanted to thank you for the prayers. We really felt “covered” and even during the meeting while receiving the news, we felt the peace that surpasses all understanding. We ask that you continue to hold Maria up in your future petitions to our Lord.
